“There is a sort of heavenly, or at least more than human, gaiety” about Beethoven’s Quartet in A minor, Op. 132, wrote T.S. Eliot, such as “might come to oneself as the fruit of reconciliation and relief after immense suffering. I should like to get something of it into verse before I die.” And so he did, in the timeless, contemplative work Four Quartets, performed here in its entirety by British actor Stephen Dillane, followed by the Miró Quartet’s interpretation of the Beethoven work.
