Teaching

The Miró Quartet is the Faculty String Quartet in Residence at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, and forms the core faculty of the School’s Chamber Music Program. In spite of their extensive touring schedule, each member of the quartet is a full time Senior Lecturer at the School. The Miró members each teach individual students as part of their studios, as well as coach numerous chamber ensembles each semester, supervising registration, masterclasses, and final semester performances. Repertoire covered by their students is diverse: everything from Mozart and Beethoven to music of contemporary UT student composers, every type of ensemble from string quartet to percussion/string/vocal trios- mirroring the eclectic programming of the Miró Quartet itself. Additionally the Miró performs publicly at UT several times each year, including its annual Beethoven cycle program as well as its regular collaborative concerts with other UT faculty and guest artists.

Every two years a promising young quartet is chosen by international audition to study intensely with the Miró Quartet at UT as part of its Young Professional String Quartet program. This select pre-professional group receives substantial scholarship as well as close mentorship in music business and career building. Other Miró programs at UT include a regular Intensive Quartet Seminar for 6 student groups focusing on the string quartets of a single composer (past classes include Shostakovich and Mendelssohn), which culminate in large public performances on campus. Additionally, the Miró on occasion holds a chamber music competition, the winners of which are invited to perform octets with the Miró on their own public performance series.
